Best 6 Stream High Speed Router USA 2021
Best 6 Stream High Speed Router USA 2021 of all the Netgear Wi-Fi 6 routers I have tested, the Nighthawk AX6 6-Stream AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Router (Model AX5400) is the easiest recommendation. It has the right balance between performance, features and cost.
This Wi-Fi eye-catching machine doesn’t have everything you can collectively find in a high-end router. This is because Netgear does not intend to be a replacement for the RAX120. Instead, it’s more of an upgraded version of the RAX40 mid-range.
And with a decent amount of goodies the router has to offer, it delivered in my test. I only had a few simple things to discover. So, for a small or medium home, the Netgear AX5400 will do more than just get the job done. Its ability to function as a viable Small Network Attached Storage (NAS) server is an added advantage.
Best 6 Stream High Speed Router USA 2021 Is Best For Big Home ?
The Netgear AX5400 is similar to the bridge between the RAX40 and RAX120 (or the RAX80 for that matter). It contains just what you need for fast Wi-Fi without having to go overboard. This router is best for big homes of 2500 SQFT.

AX5400 vs RAX40 vs RAX120
This trio from Netgear is all dual-band routers, and among them the RAX40 is the only one that is also a dual-stream router (2 × 2) – it has four spatial streams, two on each band.
The RAX120 is a 12-stream router (eight over 5GHz and four over 2.4GHz), but it is actually very similar to the RAX80 since it has the same 5GHz ceiling bandwidth of 4800Mbps. It is a matter of 80MHz versus 160MHz channel width.
The AX5400 is the middle of the road – it’s a 4 x 4 router on the 5GHz band and a 2 x 2 router on the 2.4GHz band. Since the latter is mostly intended for backup use, this router has high Wi-Fi specifications wherever it matters.
In fact, it has the same 4800Mbps bandwidth on the 5GHz band as that of its more expensive cousins, thanks to the 160MHz channel width support.
Incidentally, the AX5400 has a triple core processor that has a lot more power than the RAX40 dual core processor. However, design-wise, it looks exactly like the lower model with two additional antennas at the back.
Best 6 Stream High Speed Router USA 2021 Has Four Antenas
On the downside, the AX5400 doesn’t include any multi-functional network port, nor does it support dual-WAN or link aggregation. In short, you can’t expect to go out faster than 1Gbps on any single connection.
But if you thought 5GHz bandwidth is a waste, then you are wrong too. Because Wi-Fi bandwidth is shared, the higher ceiling means you can connect more customers to it at higher speeds. Netgear says the AX5400 can handle up to 25 concurrent wireless devices.
The AX5400 comes with four removable antennas in two packages. One is for the rear position, the other is for the side of the steering device.
Each antenna has a label that corresponds to the same sticker on the router. It’s the first Wi-Fi 6 router with clearly defined antennas, but it’s a relatively common practice in previous Netgear Wi-Fi 5 routers. The point is that you do not want to confuse their positions.
Performance of Best 6 Stream High Speed Router USA 2021
The AX5400 performed well in our test. Keep in mind, again, that since there is no multi-function port, in my test method, the router speed was limited to 1 Gbps.
Fast Wi-Fi speeds : Despite the fact that there wasn’t much I could configure the AX5400’s Wi-Fi settings, Wi-Fi 6 2 × 2 clients could connect to it at 2.4Gbps quite consistently within a range of 20 feet (6 meters). Farther away, they are starting to fluctuate between 1.2 Gbps and above. Real world speeds reflected that.
The router averaged around 880Mbps and 860Mbps for the near and long ranges, respectively.
Out of curiosity, I ran a test with two clients by copying data from one to the other, forcing the 5GHz band of the router to split in half, and now recording steady speeds of around 600Mbps and 415Mbps, respectively. Multiply these numbers by two, and you get the actual router bandwidth when working with a 2×2 client.
The AX5400 also performed well with Wi-Fi 5 clients. My 4×4 tester, at close range, had a steady speed of around 860Mbps. At 40 feet (12 meters), a 3×3 client got 560Mbps. Both were very impressive.
At 2.4GHz, the AX5400 was almost like the latest routers. It has enough speeds to offer a fully average residential broadband connection.
Best 6 Stream High Speed Router USA 2021 Reliable performance
I have been testing the AX5400 for a few days and have had no problem with that. By the way, the router had the same range as the RAX40, or the Asus RT-AX3000. So if you live in a small home about 1,800 feet (m) high, or maybe in a slightly larger house that doesn’t have a lot of thick walls, a router can handle that when positioned in the middle.
For a larger home, you may want to consider a multi-unit solution, especially if you need high local Wi-Fi speeds. Given how slow the RAX40 is to perform the NAS, I was pleasantly surprised with the AX5400.
The Netgear AX5400 Nighthawk AX6 6-Stream AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 router is not a necessity, but among the other Wi-Fi 6 routers from the same vendor, it is an easy choice. If you need a fast and reliable router for a small home with a gigabit subnet, this is an excellent buy. Get it!
